Weekly Quiz "Famous Injuries"
October 8, 2007
Welcome to the Armpit wrestling quiz for the week of October 8, 2007. WWE’s string of bad luck continued last week with the muscle tear injury to John Cena, and once again, a headliner is on the sidelines.
But is that really bad luck? No. WWE’s roster being depleted is entirely their fault. They had ample opportunities years ago to open new farm territories (ala OVW) all over the country, and did not do so. Anyone who watched OVW years ago saw all the stars of WWE today, such as John Cena, Randy Orton, Batista, Carlito, Ken “Kennedy” Anderson, Bobby Lashley, and other guys who could have or used to be stars, such as Brock Lesnar and Shelton Benjamin. Anyone who watches OVW today can clearly see the lack of potential stars like they saw 7 years ago. Where will WWE find their new stars 5 years from now? Well, that’s a risk they took when they decided not to beef up their developmental systems, and it’s not like no one warned them.
As for the muscle tears, that again is hardly bad luck. You and I know why WWE chose the Wellness Policy it did, and you and I know what causes the vast majority of muscle tears. Is this really bad luck, or once again, is this the result of risky behavior coming back to haunt WWE after far too many years of getting away with it.
In honor of all the rips and tears this year, this week’s quiz is called, “Famous Injuries.”
Last week's answers:
-Sir Oliver Humperdink won the managing services of 1987 newcomer Bam Bam Bigelow.
-Wade Boggs participated in some of those Curt Hennig skits for WWF.
-The video with the boat being blown up was for WCW Beach Blast ’93. WCW did a similar video for Halloween Havoc ’92, and as horrible as it was, that PPV did a well above average buyrate, thanks to a main event of Sting vs. Jake Roberts.
-Ted DiBiase, with Sherri Martel, is the one who did those funny videos in 1991 making fun of Tito Santana. Sherri would act disgusted and say how Tito’s house was “Mucho gross-o.” DiBiase’s best line was, “Need I say mas??”
-Brian Pillman did some racy vignettes in a hotel room with Dustin Rhodes’ (Goldust) ex-wife, Terri Runnels.
Here are this week's questions. Remember, the new rules are that you no longer need to submit your questions, and no winners will be declared. We're just doing this for fun and to honor the forgotten world of wrestling history.
1. HHH is famous for that stubborn quad of his that seems to tear whenever he sneezes. In fact, the only time new stars seem to get pushed in WWE is when HHH is out with an injury. HHH first tore his quad in a classic 2001 match of the year candidate. His opponents were Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit. Name HHH’s tag team partner in that match. 2. In 1991, Scott Steiner was absolutely huge… and he was about half the size he is now. The Steiners were quite the innovative tag team, and back then they were world class workers as well. That momentum was momentarily stopped in 1991 when Scotty tore which muscle? 3. What large wrestler broke his leg in WCW in 2001 in perhaps the most gruesome injury ever aired on TV? He jumped off the 2nd rope, landed, and that was it. It was so sick that I remember my co-workers were passing around a video of it via email, and these were guys who weren’t wrestling fans. 4. When Cactus Jack lost his ear in 1993, a potentially huge angle was handed to them, which they then took into their hands and tossed in the garbage. At a time when wrestling (especially WCW) never got any media attention, the mighty Howard Stern was talking about Foley losing his ear (thanks to Foley’s good friend and Stern Wack Packer, Fred the Elephant Boy). But WCW did nothing with it, of course. What country did this freak ear injury happen in? 5. Backstage at Survivor Series ’97 (yes, THAT Survivor Series), Davey Boy Smith re-injured his knee by doing what?
Answers will be posted next week.
