PPV Buy Rate: 5.9
Announcers: Gorilla Monsoon and
Jesse Ventura
The Mega-Powers EXPLODE! This is a storyline that was a year in the
making and make no mistake about it, this was THE money match of the
time. I haven't seen this one in awhile, so we'll see if it can hold up
16 years later (wow, I'm getting old).
Women's Champion Rockin' Robin (Jake Roberts' half sister) absolutely
BUTCHERS the National Anthem, and looks like she has rigor mortis as
stiff as she is standing there. She's not even that attractive really,
she's a butter face. (Jesse: "She better keep her daytime job.")
The Trump Plaza is setup interestingly, with the entranceway being only
about 8 feet wide, so basically all the wrestlers have to walk through
a sea of marks' arms and hands to get to the ring.
King Haku (w/Bobby Heenan) vs. Hercules
This was fresh off Hercules's face turn, where he started sticking his
nose up Hulk Hogan's butt to get a following.
Haku jumps Herc from behind and hammers away in the corner. Herc comes
back with a hiptoss and a bodyslam, and then plants Haku's face into
the mat. Clothesline sends Haku over the top rope, and Hercules
suplexes Haku back in from the apron. Herc drops a pair of elbows, but
now goes after Heenan like a complete idiot and he of course gets
jumped from behind. Faces are so stupid, no wonder I started liking the
heels around 1991. Back inside, Haku gets a nice backbreaker, and
follows it up with a not-so-good backbreaker for two. Bearhug from
Haku, as I'm convinced Gorilla and Jesse were the best announcers I've
ever heard, preaching psychology like no other. Herc breaks the hold,
but Haku nails him to slow Hercules down and chokes him on the ropes.
Off the ropes, Herc gets a cross body for two, but Haku stays in
control. Haku misses his own high cross body from the corner, and Herc
goes to work. Kneelift and a pair of clotheslines sends Haku down.
Powerslam gets a close two. Herc goes to the top but gets kicked in the
head on the way down. Haku goes up top now, and misses his headbutt and
Herc gets a German Suplex with a bridge for the pin.
Winner: Hercules
Surprisingly, this wasn't THAT bad. I'm gonna go **1/2 and yes, I'm as
shocked as you are.
Backstage, "Mean" Gene is with The Rockers. I never noticed this, but
The Rockers have SM and MJ on their shirts, I guess for the REALLY
stupid people in the audience.
The Twin Towers (Bossman and Akeem w/ Slick) vs. The Rockers
Notable match because this is "Mr. WrestleMania's" WrestleMania debut
(his nickname, not mine).
Bossman is HUGE here, and he ought to be glad he slimmed down.
Shawn and Bossman start, and Bossman slaps him, so Shawn dropkicks him
in the back. Shawn gets a leapfrog and nails Akeem, and then stuns
Bossman with a right hand. Bossman retreats to get advice from Slick,
then tags in Akeem, who immediately gets funky. Shawn moonwalks to mock
him, then works the arm. Frequent tags in and out for The Rockers as
they keep working Akeem's arm with armbars. Akeem goes to the eyes, but
misses a blind charge and Shawn tags in Marty, who goes right back to
the arm. Akeem gets a blind tag to the Bossman, which Marty doesn't
see, so they sandwich him in between their guts to turn the tide.
Bossman tags back in Akeem, who splashes Marty against the ropes.
Bossman comes back in, and Akeem whips him into Marty, who was slumped
in the corner, and Akeem follows with his own Avalanche. Back in comes
Akeem, and Bossman holds him for a shot, but Akeem nails Bossman by
mistake. Marty gets the hot tag to Shawn, who hammers away on Akeem in
the corner with a 10-punch, and The Rockers do some double-teaming with
a double shoulderblock from the top rope which gets one. Off the ropes,
Akeem KILLS Shawn with a clothesline (Jesse: "I believe he irritated
Akeem.") and Bossman tags in and goes up top (?!?!), but he misses the
big splash and Shawn rolls him over for two. Shawn tries a headscissors
and Marty trips him up. The Rockers gets missile dropkicks at the same
time, but Akeem breaks up the pin and sends Marty to the outside. Shawn
tries a headscissors off the top, but Bossman powerbombs him and tags
Akeem. He gets Air Africa (splash off the ropes) for the pinfall.
Winners: The Twin Towers
Not a bad big vs. little match, with The Rockers doing OK as long as
they kept moving, and getting killed when they didn't. **1/2 for
another decent one.
Tony Schiavone (yes, THAT Tony Schiavone) is with Ted DiBiase, and it
just sounds really weird to keep hearing him say "Oh yes Beefcake,
right now Beefcake."
"Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase vs. Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake
Didn't DiBiase luck out with the best gimmick ever? Vince paid for him
to fly first class, best hotel rooms, limos... and all for the marks to
believe he was rich. This was kind of a step down for Ted, however, as
he was in the main event last year (and scheduled to win it according
to Meltzer) and now he's in a midcard match against a barber with torn
pants.
Brutus gets a back body drop and a hiptoss to start, and follows with
another back body drop, showing his expansive moveset. DiBiase takes
over and chops away in the corner, but Brutus reverses a whip into the
corner into a powerslam and a pair of body slams. A clothesline sends
Ted over the top and into the arms of Virgil, and he wants a time-out
now. DiBiase rolls back in and they trade right hands, and back into
the ropes, where Virgil grabs Beefcake's leg and DiBiase gets a cheap
shot to take over. DiBiase chokes him out on the mat and rams Brutus
into the corner. Elbow off the ropes as Jesse speaks my motto: "Win if
you can, lose if you must, but always cheat." DiBiase drops his awesome
fistdrop for two. Clothesline from DiBiase and Ted takes forever to
come off the second rope with a double ax. He stomps away and gets a
two count. You know, so far there had been at least one dead person or
drug addict in each match... and who said the 80's were boring?
DiBiase gets caught with his head down in a small package for two.
DiBiase stays in control, but Beefcake reverses a suplex for the rest
spot. DiBiase is first up to his feet, but they clothesline each other
for the double KO. DiBiase gets up first and gets a suplex, and then
locks on the Million Dollar Dream. Beefcake fights to the ropes to
absolutely no reaction. Beefcake rams DiBiase's head into the corner
and starts hammering away and trading punches with Ted. DiBiase tastes
the corner 10 times and does a Flair Flip, and Brutus locks on his
boring sleeperhold. Brutus goes after Virgil like an IDIOT and (say it
with me now) gets jumped from behind. But Beefcake no-sells Virgil's
manager offense and gets jumped from behind AGAIN as DiBiase comes out
to fight and they both get counted out in a lame finish.
Winner: Double Count Out
You all know my feelings on no contests at WrestleMania. Brutus kicks
Virgil's ass back in the ring, and then beats up DiBiase as well. *1/2
cause it was boring.
Very stupid skit with Lord Alfred Hayes and The Bushwhackers.
The Fabulous Rougeau Brothers vs. The Bushwhackers
"All American Boys" is an awesome theme song, and now I have to go and
try to find it to download. Running joke is that the Rougeau's wave
American flags and chant "USA" but everyone knows they are full of it.
Bushwhackers get hold of Jimmy Hart's coat, but the brothers save the
coat from certain destruction. Luke and Butch whip the Rougeaus into
each other, with Jimmy getting caught in the middle and the jacket
flying in the air.
Luke and Raymond officially start, and Ray moves out of the way of a
Luke fistdrop, so Butch comes in and The Bushwhackers gets the
battering ram on Raymond. Jacques pulls Ray outside and there is
NOTHING going on. The Rougeaus double-team Luke and Ray whips Luke hard
into the corner. Ray goes up top and gets a double ax and takes in
Jacques. Butch runs in to distract the referee and the Rougeaus get a
weak double team move. This match sucks. Jacques gets an abdominal
stretch, and Ray flips in the ring and gets a kick to the gut. The
Canadians celebrate and The Bushwhackers jump Ray from behind with a
double gut buster for the pin. Wow.
Winners: The Bushwhackers
This was horrible, that's all I have to say. DUD
Mr. Perfect vs. The Blue Blazer
Of course, The Blue Blazer is Owen Hart, and he's from Parts Unknown to
boot. Geez, BOTH of these guys are dead, that's kind of depressing.
Quick start, with Perfect getting a hiptoss, and he slaps the Blazer.
Blazer returns the favor and gets a drop toehold and we go to a
stalemate. Blazer flips through a hiptoss and gets a slam, and then
dropkicks Perfect over the top rope. Beautiful. To the outside, Blazer
hammers away and rolls him back inside. Blazer works the arm, and comes
out of the corner with a hiptoss and a standing dropkick. Backbreaker
gets two. Northern Lights suplex gets two, and now Blazer goes up top,
but a big splash hits knees. Perfect works the back with knee drops,
and then a type of Camel Clutch. Perfect misses a blind charge into the
corner and Blazer gets a powerslam for two. Blazer sends him into the
corner and follows with a belly-to-belly suplex for two. Blazer gets a
crucifix for a close two count, and Perfect takes his head off with an
elbow. Perfect-Plex gets the pin.
Winner: Mr. Perfect
I wish it was given more time, cause this was good stuff. **3/4
Howard Finkel introduced Jesse Ventura to the crowd, and he gets a
bigger pop than half the roster.
Lord Alfred Hayes recaps a 5k run with Mr. Fuji, boring the crowd and
me. I hate pointless segments like this.
More dead people, as Run DMC does a rap song and I fast forward.
Recap of the double turn at Survivor Series for Demolition and the
Powers of Pain. Best thing that could happen to both teams, because who
the hell wants to cheer for the Barbarian and the Warlord?
"Mean" Gene allows Demolition to give their basic screaming interview,
and it might just be me but calling someone "Fuj the Stooge" doesn't
exactly seem really mean.
WWF Tag Team Titles - Handicap Match
Demolition vs. The Faces of Fear and Mr. Fuji
Demolition are from Parts Unknown as well, so I wonder if they are
neighbors with The Blue Blazer? Demolition gets a huge pop for the
entrance.
Warlord starts with Ax, and Ax hammers away (I'm shocked). Smash tags
in and they beat down the Warlord. Smash tags back in Ax, who gets a
snap mare and Smash comes back in. Warlord powers Smash into his corner
and tags in the Barbarian, but gets caught with a boot to the face and
he tags in Ax. They club him down some more and Ax levels the
Barbarian. Another tag to Smash, who gets an elbow before tagging back
in Ax to help him with a double elbow off the ropes. Smash comes back
in, but gets caught by the Barbarian, and the Warlord comes in, but
Smash pounds away on him and Ax tags in. He goes after Mr. Fuji,
allowing the Warlord to jump him from behind. Fuji tags in and chops
away on Ax, and drops a headbutt into the midsection on Ax. He tags in
the Barbarian, who knocks Ax across the ring with a big boot. The
Powers work some double-teaming in, and Fuji tags in again. He goes up
top (?!?!) but misses whatever and Warlord tags in to prevent the
Demolition tag. Ax nails Warlord with a clothesline and gets the hot
tag to Smash who hammers away on both the Powers of Pain. Demolition
get a double stungun for two, and Ax gets tossed as Smash is held by
Warlord for the salt from Fuji. Smash ducks and Warlord takes it in the
face. That leaves Fuji alone with the Demos who give him Total
Demolition for the win.
Winner and STILL champions: Demolition
Well, Demolition was never known for their awesome wrestling ability,
it was a basic brawl, which gets *3/4
Tony Schiavone tries to interview Randy Savage, who goes ballistic and
probably kills Tony... it's for the best.
Dino Bravo vs. "Rugged" Ronnie Garvin
Weird moment as Jimmy Snuka is introduced, takes a lap around the ring,
and then leaves. What the hell was that?
Dino jumps Garvin from behind and elbow drops him. Garvin is best known
for being the NWA Champion that everyone hated even though he was a
face and Ric Flair was a heel. Dino locks on a bearhug and a weak
shoulderblock. Arrogant cover only gets two, and Garvin gets a
headscissors and pounds Dino down for two. Garvin with a splash for
two, and Garvin rams Dino into the corner. Gorilla describes the silent
crowd as being in "awe". Rolling cradle gets two for Garvin, and he
locks on a sleeper hold. Garvin tries a piledriver, but he gets a
sunset flip instead for two. 10-punch is reversed into an inverted
atomic drop by Dino and gets the side slam for the pin.
Winner: Dino Bravo
Match was all over the place and not really good at all. * and
post-match Ronnie Garvin gives the Garvin Stomp to Frenchy Martin.
The Brainbusters vs. Strike Force
This is Rick Martel's big return after being put out of action by
Demolition about a year earlier.
Martel starts with Tully, and Arn works a cheap shot in only 20 seconds
into the match. Martel hammers away on both Tully and Arn, and now all
four jump in for the pier-6 brawl. Dropkicks send the Brainbusters
running, and now it's Arn and Martel. Martel gets a facecrusher for
two, and now it's a knucklelock on the mat and they fight over that for
a little while. Arn gets a bodyscissors, but Martel counters to a
Boston Crab in a nice spot, but Tully thumbs him in the eye like a good
little heel. Tully and Tito come in and Santana gets the figure four
quickly, and now they steal a Rock 'n Roll Express spot as Martel puts
Arn in a figure four as well. Tito gets a backslide on Tully for two,
and now Tito gets a small package for two, foiling a double-team
attempt.
Santana tries a flying forearm on Tully, but he ducks and nails Martel
who falls to the outside. Arn comes in and they work over Tito in the
corner, and Arn keeps preventing Tito from tagging Martel. Sunset flip
out of nowhere, but Tully gets a blind tag to break it up. Tito gets a
high cross body for two, but Arn comes in to prevent the tag again and
takes over on Santana. Arn goes up top, but Tito slams him off and
slowly crawls for the tag as Martel is still selling the forearm shot.
Tito gets there, but Martel won't tag because he's "hurt" and the crowd
does not like that AT ALL. Tully comes in and pounds on Santana while
Martel decides he's had enough and takes a walk. RIP Tito Santana. The
Brainbusters work over Tito like there's no tomorrow. HUGE spinebuster
from Arn, and they finish off Tito with a spike piledriver for the pin.
Winners: The Brainbusters
Well, you can't go wrong when you have two of the original Horsemen in
the match, so it's **1/2 for a decent match.
Rick Martel whines and cries to "Mean" Gene about Tito. The French
accent does not make him sound intimidating at all.
They run a "No Holds Barred" preview and Jesse LOSES it, flipping out
on Hogan for invading his territory and saying he can "drive my limo!!"
Recap of the Mega-Powers forming at WrestleMania IV and all their
impressive wins at SummerSlam and Survivor Series. Then the semi-famous
angle where Liz was crushed by the Macho Man (which looked pretty
nasty) and Hulk carries her back to the dressing room. Hulk came back
and wanted a tag, so Savage slapped him across the face and then nailed
him with the belt backstage.
"Mean" Gene interviews Hogan who does his token stuff.
Jake "The Snake" Roberts vs. Andre the Giant
Special Ref: Big John Studd
This was supposed to be Studd's big comeback as a face, but turns out
he couldn't do it. And this was during the "Andre is afraid of snakes"
thing that drew millions to every box office.
Andre jumps Jake before the bell, and the turnbuckle pad was somehow
removed and Jake goes flying into it. Andre locks on a standing
chinlock, and Jake fights out and tries to run for Damien, but Andre
locks the chinlock back on. Andre crushes him in the corner, as Andre
laughs at Studd. Andre chokes Jake in the corner and he stomps away.
More punching away in the corner, and Jake tries to fight back, as he
clotheslines Andre and the Giant gets tied up in the ropes. Jake chokes
him and now Jake wants to get Damien involved. Andre frees himself and
grabs Jake around the neck and headbutts him down. Andre goes with a
hold that looks like a neck massage, and Andre headbutts again. Andre
really has no business being in that ring now, he limps and can't sell
at all. Andre rams a shoulder into Jake in the corner, and then he
starts selling for no reason and Jake comes back with short jabs and he
rams Andre into the exposed turnbuckle. Andre chops Jake through the
ropes and to the outside, and Andre won't let Jake back in the ring.
Studd gets in his face and turns his back on Andre, so Andre headbutts
him as Jake gets the bag with Damien in it. Studd shoves Andre and the
Million Dollar Man runs down and steals Damien. Jake gives chase while
Andre is headbutting the hell out of Studd back in the ring. Jake
throws Damien in the ring and Andre pisses himself and heads for the
hills. The bell rings and ends this mess.
Winner by DQ: Jake "The Snake" Roberts
No good at all, as Andre was clinging to whatever was left at this
point DUD.
Sherri Martel is backstage, promising to take the title from Rockin'
Robin. As long as it stops her from singing anymore, I'm all for it.
Honky Tonk Man & Greg Valentine vs. The Hart Foundation
This show never ends, I swear, I feel like it's been six hours already.
Bret starts with HTM, and Bret hammers away and gets a cradle for two.
Bret gets an atomic drop, then an inverted atomic drop and HTM tags in
Valentine. Valentine gets pounded by Bret and now Neidhart tags in.
Nice little move where Bret slingshots Neidhart over the top rope into
Valentine for two. Bret tags back in and gets a backbreaker, but misses
the elbow from the second rope. Valentine takes over and tags in HTM,
and they beat the hell out of Bret in the corner. HTM gets a snap mare
and a suplex, and then drops a pair of elbows. Valentine tags in and
gets an elbow off the top. Inverted atomic drop, and a headbutt to the
midsection, and in comes Honky. HTM gets the Shake, Rattle, and Roll
and then tags in Valentine, who tries the figure four, but Bret
counters. Valentine stays in control and gets a gutbuster for two. HTM
comes back in, but he takes a cross body for two. Gorilla says he would
have beaten Jesse with his big splash. Valentine back in, and Bret
finally gets a tag to the Anvil, who dropkicks everything in sight.
Neidhart gets a clothesline, but HTM breaks up the pin. Valentine goes
to the eyes and tags in Honky, who gets beat up and Neidhart tags in
Bret. Bret gets the elbow from the second rope, and nails HTM with a
suplex, and the pin is broken up by Valentine. Neidhart steals the
megaphone from Jimmy Hart, tosses it to Bret, and he nails HTM with it
and gets the pin. See? Bret Hart is a no good, cheating, greasy-haired,
ass.
Winners: The Hart Foundation
Really dumb match with no story to it. =* and that's being generous.
Recap of Warrior/Rude feud, with the epic pose down at the Royal Rumble
where Rude beat the hell out of him.
WWF Intercontinental Title
The Ultimate Warrior vs. "Ravishing" Rick Rude
Rude tries to knee Warrior in the gut, but he still had the belt on so
Rude hurts his knee. Warrior kicks his ass in the corner, as he throws
Rude around like he's nothing. Rude takes some hard whips into the
corner, bumping like a ping-pong ball, and Warrior locks on the
bearhug, which completely kills the pace of the match. Rude goes to the
eyes to break and a missile dropkick from Rude doesn't even get a
count, and Warrior comes back with a bodyslam. Warrior goes back to the
bearhug. Rude bites the Warrior, which I would be worried about getting
a disease from, considering how many ring rats Rude has probably been
with. Warrior returns the favor, which I'd be worried about getting a
disease because Warrior is just crazy. Backdrop from the Warrior and he
tries the Big Splash, but Rude gets the knees up. Rude drills Warrior
with a piledriver, and it gets two. He gets a jawbreaker, but Rude's
back is too hurt to swivel his hips, that's a damn shame.
Rude gets a clothesline for two, and then gets a neckbreaker for
another two count. Standing surfboard by Rude, and the Warrior
eventually powers to the ropes and shakes them with Rude still on his
back and he gets a big shoulder tackle to take Rude down to the mat.
Warrior nails him with a facecrusher, and then trips when he tries a
repeated backbreaker and almost kills Rude. Warrior covers with a
clothesline, and then shoulderblocks Rude into the corner. Warrior
misses a blind charge into the corner, and Rude tries the Rude
Awakening, but Warrior powers out and clotheslines him to the floor.
Ultimate Fruitcake sends him back in, only to clothesline him over the
top again... makes sense, huh? Warrior goes to suplex Rude from the
apron, but Heenan grabs Warrior's foot and Rude falls on top for the
pin and the title.
Winner and NEW Champion: Rick Rude
Post-match Warrior beats the hell out of Bobby Heenan.
That was actually an innovative finish at the time, and the match
wasn't bad, but their cage match was better. **1/2.
Bad News Brown vs. "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan
I'm thinking this match is going to suck, and suck hard. Brown throws
some punches (surprised?) and backs Duggan into a corner. Bad News
misses a blind charge and now it's Duggan's turn to hammer away. Duggan
clotheslines him, and Brown decides to take a walk. He changes his mind
and gets on the apron, so Duggan catapults him back in but gets caught
with his head down and gets run into the corner by Brown. Duggan
"HOOOO's" a lot, and Bad News goes to the eyes to stop the madness. Bad
News punches some more, and a headbutt sends Duggan to the outside.
Duggan meets the post and Bad News sends him back into the ring. Bad
News tries the Ghetto Blaster (enzuguri), but Duggan ducks and hits the
Three-Point Clothesline. Brown totally no-sells the move and rolls to
the outside and grabs a chair. So Duggan gets the 2x4 and they fight in
the middle of the ring with the weapons as the referee calls for the
bell to end this mess. Duggan clears him out of the ring with the 2x4.
Double DQ
Yes Virginia, this WAS bad. DUD for nothing but punching.
"Mean" Gene is with Terry Taylor... no, don't make me do it. Fine...
The Red Rooster. He comes in complete with crowing and pecking, and
making a total ass of himself. He promises to beat Bobby Heenan, and
crows some more. Good God.
The Red Rooster vs. Bobby Heenan
Heenan brings the Brooklyn Brawler down to ringside with him, but
Heenan is still hurt from the Warrior attack. No match here as it's a
whip into the corner and a roll-up for the pin. The Brawler attacks
afterwards, setting off the epic feud that went on to headline
WrestleMania VI.
Winner: The Red Rooster
DUD for a whole lot of nothing.
"Mean" Gene is with Elizabeth (WHOOO HOOO!!! HUBBA HUBBA!!) who
promises to be in a neutral corner, and hopes that no one is injured
tonight.
WWF World Title
"Macho Man" Randy Savage vs. Hulk Hogan
Savage comes out first, making me upset since the champion always comes
out last, no matter if he's fighting Hogan or not. Jesse points this
out as well, but also goes off on a rant about Hogan that's so
one-sided it's hilarious. How's this for irony, Savage defends the
title against Hogan in the same building where Hogan helped him win it
a year earlier... could it be great advance planning by Vince, or dumb
luck?
Liz gets about 20 security guards, plus Pat Patterson (the only guy
Macho could trust to be around Liz, for obvious reasons) to protect her
from the marks, but some guy still manages to pinch her ass. Jesse dubs
the challenger "Lust" Hogan.
Savage bails as the bell rings, drawing instant heat, and then comes
back in and gets tossed across the ring by Hogan. Savage takes a
shoulderblock and rolls to the outside again, and decides to scream at
Elizabeth. Savage jumps back in and grabs a headlock, but Hogan
reverses and Savage bails again. Now Hogan has had enough and chases
him around the ring, so Savage puts Liz in front of him, now THAT'S
heel heat right there.
Back in, Hogan grabs a headlock, and Savage gets a back suplex to
break, but misses an elbow drop. Hogan pounds away, enraging Jesse
because they are closed fists. Hogan grabs an arm wringer, but Savage
goes to the eyes and hits a double ax handle from the top for two.
Savage gets an armbar, and then drags Hogan by the hair to keep him
down when he tries to fight out. Hogan returns the cheating ways by
grabbing the trunks to throw Savage out of the ring. Hulk tosses him
back in as Jesse flips out about Hogan's cheating ways.
Hogan runs Macho into the corners, and follows with a clothesline and a
pair of elbows. Savage catches him with his head down, and gets a
clothesline for two. Savage grabs a sleeper, and Hogan is now bleeding
from a cut above the eye. Hulk finally powers out and gets an atomic
drop, but he misses an elbow drop and Savage is back in control. Savage
gets a high knee to Hogan's back, driving him into the corner, and
Savage rolls him up, grabbing the tights, for two. Savage sends him
into the corner, and Savage pounds the cut as Jesse proclaims the match
over. Savage stomps on Hulk's hand just to be an ass, and slaps him
across the face, which is a mistake cause Hulk gets pissed off and rams
Savage into the corner and pounds away. Hulk gets the corner
clothesline, but he hurts his arm on the move. Hogan picks Savage up
and just dumps him over the top rope to the floor and Liz helps Savage,
so Randy takes a swing at her. Savage drags Hogan outside and rakes the
eyes, but Hogan rams Macho in the apron. Hulk tries to rams Savage into
the post, but Liz stands in his way, so Savage pushes Hulk and Liz
moves, so Hulk hits the post hard. I love this storyline. Now Liz is
trying to help Hulk, so Randy comes out and throws her out of the way,
and then manhandles her some more. Earl Hebner has finally had enough,
and orders Savage back into the ring and Elizabeth to the dressing
room.
Savage goes up top and hits the double ax to the floor, driving Hogan's
throat into the steel barricade around the ring. Back inside, Savage
gives him the over-the-top-rope clothesline, chokes him on the ropes,
and then elbows Hulk in the throat. Knee drop to the throat gets two,
and now Savage unwraps his wrist tape and chokes out Hogan. Jesse
proclaims that is "his move", and Hulk is in a little bit of trouble.
Randy simply chokes the living breath out of Hogan and Hulk is
officially RIP in the middle of the ring. Savage goes up top for the
Flying Elbow, and nails it. 1... 2... HULK UP TIME!! You know the rest
already, but here we go. Hulk is impervious to the punches, (YOU!!!!)
and it's Big Boot, Legdrop time. Cover, count, and Hogan is champ for
the second time.
Winner and NEW Champion: Hulk Hogan
This was a definite keeper here, with good emotion and good storylines
to keep the fans in the match. I'm going to go ***3/4 and say good job
boys.
Final Word
Well, this entire period of the WWF was never much for "workrate" as it
was mainly just Hulk and the rest. WrestleMania V really was a
one-match show, so don't go out of your way for this one.
