Hypocrite Nation

Exposing Wrestling's Charlatans

Wrestling is a sport chock full of liars, cheaters, and hypocrites.  And being that we love to expose people for who they really are, we figured it's about damn time we started documenting these frauds.

This will eventually grow to become an extensive list of anything and everything hypocritical that goes on in wrestling.  This is no longer the 80s and 70s, when wrestling folks could lie all day and nobody would notice.  This is the dawn of the Internet age, and we're going to publicly expose lies as truth so that nobody gets taken for the fool.

Strike Force Says "No" to Drugs

The photo says it all.  Tito Santanta and Rick Martel are telling us to say No to drugs.  While we have no concrete proof that either of these men were on steroids when this photo was taken, we're gonna go out on a limb and say those physiques they had were very difficult to achieve naturally.  It's hard to look like that today without chemical help, but it was even harder back then (1988) when the WWF road schedule was umpteen times more rough than it is today, and things like Growth Hormone weren't prevalent yet.

In other words, that photo is one of the most hypocritical things we've ever seen.

LESSON: It's not okay for you to take drugs, but it's okay if Strike Force and the entire WWF locker room can sport physiques that couldn't possibly have been achieved naturally.

"You Screwed Matt"

I'm dedicating this section to any wrestling fan who hates Lita and/or Edge because they screwed over Matt Hardy.  Yes, they screwed Matt.  But...................

Pretty much every wrestler has committed adultery.  Does that mean we should hate everyone who ever laced up a pair of boots?

Vince cheated on Linda, and bragged about it in his Playboy interview.  Why don't we chant "You screwed Linda!" at Vince?  We won't even begin to mention other wrestlers we've heard stories about.  Just take our word that if you knew what really went on, you'd look at almost everyone in an entirely new light.  Have you read Ric Flair's book?  On every page, he's sleeping with a different girl, all the while married to Leslie or Beth.

And really, do you mean to tell me that every single person who chanted "You screwed Matt" has been faithful throughout his/her entire life?  None of them have ever stolen cable?  That means that they're screwing the cable company.  Why don't they chant at themselves?  Because they're hypocrites.  We all are.

LESSON: It's not okay for Lita and Edge to screw Matt, but it's perfectly okay if every other wrestler screws with every other wrestler and their spouses.

Vince McMahon Cries About Censorship

After Spike censored the mentions of "USA Network" on the last Raw broadcast on Spike, Vince McMahon complained publicly about how he hates censorship and thinks it's unfair what Spike did.  But............

Hasn't WWE been confiscating anti-Cena signs from their fans at many recent shows?  Yes.  Hasn't WWE been confiscating signs since as long as anyone can remember?  Yes.  Hasn't WWE fired and/or punished anyone in the company who speaks out against the company in the media?  Yes.

LESSON: Vince hate censorship... when it happens to him.  When he does it to other people, it's perfectly fine.

"All WCW did was just steal WWF's big stars."

Vince McMahon and all his corporate ass-kissers will have you believe that WCW won the ratings war simply because they used Ted Turner's money and stole WWF's big stars.  WCW never created any stars of their own.  Blah blah blah.   But.......

Didn't Vince McMahon do the same damn thing to all the territories back in the 80s?  Yes, he did.  And he was smart to do it.  But Jesus, don't deny it.

NEWS FLASH: Hulk Hogan was a huge star (in fact, the biggest draw in the country) BEFORE he went to the WWF in late 1983.  He was the AWA's top dog, drawing crowds of 8,000 in Minnesota and even out here in California.  He was also the darling of Japan.  Gene Okerlund was also a cult favorite in the AWA.  So was Jesse Ventura, whom Vince also stole from AWA.

Yes, Jimmy Snuka was a home grown WWF superstar.  But here's another list of guys Vince McMahon "stole," followed in parenthesis by the promotion they were stolen from: Ted DiBiase (UWF, which had just been purchased by WWF), Jim Duggan (UWF), Junkyard Dog (Mid-South), Curt Hennig (AWA), Roddy Piper (Georgia, Carolinas), Road Warriors (NWA, the company that never created their own stars), Arn Anderson (ditto), Tully Blanchard (ditto), Big Show (WCW, who couldn't create stars), Shawn Michaels & Marty Jannetty (AWA), One Man Gang (UWF), Sid Justice (WCW), Barry Windham (NWA), and many, many others.  He also tried, and failed, to get Ric Flair (NWA), Harley Race (NWA), Jim Cornette and the Midnight Express (NWA), Sting (WCW), and Kerry Von Erich (WCCW).

Oh, as far as WCW never creating their own stars, I have a few words for you: Sting, Bill Goldberg, Kevin Nash (much bigger star than Diesel), Scott Hall (much bigger than Razor Ramon), Road Warriors, Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard, Barry Windham, Vader (a star overseas, but WCW made him in the US), Sid Vicious, the Steiners, the Giant, and Lex Luger.  They also used Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Roddy Piper, Hall, Nash, and Flair far better than WWF did in the late 90s when they were considered to all be "washed up."

LESSON:  When Eric Bischoff does it, it's called stealing.  When Vince McMahon does it, it's called good business.

Steve Austin Snubs Jeff Jarrett

In the 90s, Steve Austin complained that in WCW, the main eventers held him down and wouldn't share the spotlight with him.  But......

When Austin was top dog in WWE, he held Jeff Jarrett down by refusing to work a program with him.  He felt it would bring him down to lower card status and wouldn't draw flies.

There are 3 points to note here:

1.  WWF and Austin were so hot in 1999 that literally anything could have drawn money.  Had Jarrett done the program with Austin, it would've done well because when promotions are hot, everything works.

2.  Austin may actually be correct here.  In WCW, Austin was a talented performer with the goods to headline PPVs.  In WWE (and everywhere else), Jarrett does not have main event talent.  He's in the main events now because he's in charge of the company, and was in main events in WCW because his best friend was booker.  Jarrett is a very effective mid-card heel.  He's a very ineffective main event heel, even when Debra and her shiny legs were by his side.

3.  The truth is that Austin turned down the Jarrett feud for personal reasons.  The excuse Austin gave was valid, but it wasn't real.  The real reason is that Austin holds deep animosity toward the Jarrett family based on his experiences in Tennessee when he was a rookie in 1990.  Even before he was in WWE, Austin did interviews openly complaining about his payoffs and treatment in Memphis.  This was his payback.

LESSON: It's not okay if Steve Austin gets buried and held back, but it's okay if Austin does the same to Jeff Jarrett years later.

WWE Won't Return Blue Meanie's Calls

When WWE brought in Blue Meanie to job on television, it was simply because they wanted to avoid a lawsuit from when JBL kicked the crap out of Meanie for real on the ECW PPV.  Apparently Meanie didn't realize this, because after they used him for a few shots, they dropped him like a bad habit and kicked him to the curb.  Meanie went on the internet and complained that no one from WWE returned his calls.  But..............

When Meanie agreed to do an interview with us a few years ago, he only answered half the questions.  When he said to re-send them so he could finish, he never answered our emails.  We tried again.  Still no answer.

LESSON:  It's not okay if WWE blows off Meanie, but it's perfectly okay if Meanie blows us off.

"Flair is Dead!"

In 1994, ECW was so hot that Shane Douglas got over with the Philadelphia crowd by bashing their hero, Ric Flair.  And they loved him for it.

You see, Douglas claimed that Flair was too old to wrestle and sucked in the ring.  He also called Dusty Rhodes an ass-kisser and complained about the politics in WCW.  He also said the WWF sucked and Vince McMahon could kiss his ass.  But...............

In 2000, Shane Douglas joined WCW and worked an angle with Ric Flair.  Douglas, despite being years younger than Flair, still at his peak was never as good a wrestler as Flair is today at 56.  As for Dusty, Douglas joined TNA and held the microphone for Big Dust and kissed his ass.  He also joined WWF in 1995 and worked as a mid-carder in a lame gimmick called Dean Douglas.

LESSON: It's not okay if Flair wrestles past 40 and Dusty kisses ass and WWF sucks.  But it's okay if Shane can feud with Flair years later, wrestle nowhere near as well as he does, hold the mic for Dusty, and work for WWE.

Jim Cornette's Odd Friendships

Jim Cornette hates Vince Russo.  Everybody knows that, and we love him for it.  However, Jim said he likes Jeff Jarrett and can't understand how someone like Jeff would pal around with someone like Russo.  But......

Minutes later, Jim said he went and hugged Dusty Rhodes at a recent convention because he hadn't seen him in years (this was the show where Cornette spit at Ed Ferrara).

So I'll ask the question: Jim, how can someone like you pal around with someone like Dusty?  Yes, Russo killed WCW and TNA, but so did Rhodes.

The answer is that Dusty likes Jim and pushed him hard when he was booker of the NWA.  And that's okay, because Jim is great.  But Dusty is not great.

LESSON: It's okay for Cornette to be friends with booker extraordinaire Dusty Rhodes, but it's not okay for Jeff Jarrett to be friends with writer extraordinaire Vince Russo.

The Self-Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior

According to WWE, Ultimate Warrior is a nut.  He's unprofessional, untalented, and Vince couldn't wait to fire him.  But.....

How many levels is this absurd on?  If he was so bad, why did they re-hire him in 1996, and try to hire him again in 1998?  If he's so bad as a wrestler, then why does WWE continue to employ guys today who either can't work (Viscera, Snitsky) or are way too green to work (Masters, Boogey Man, Lashley, Jordan)?

And then WWE goes on Byte This and jokes that Warrior did nothing buy take lots and lots of steroids.  But......

How many WWE wrestlers are on steroids this very minute??  I know some people who would say at least 80% of them are.

LESSON: Wrestlers are great... if they agree to appear on WWE DVDs.  Wrestlers suck if they don't agree.  And it's okay for WWE to mock Warrior for using steroids, but it's not okay if we mock WWE for employing wrestlers who use both steroids and human growth hormone.
